What a week! The students did a fantastic job at the Chorus concert on Tuesday. Hopefully you are all as proud as I am; they've been working hard! As the week comes to a close, I want to send out a few reminders.
1) Our holiday activities (Meals-on-Wheels and Holiday Breakfast) were outlined in a letter that went home in LAST Friday's folder. We are asking for donations from the 5th grade parents and for volunteers to help during the activities. If you have the donation from, please return it to school tomorrow (Friday) so that we can assign items in a timely manner! Thanks!
2) You may have heard that we have a new student, Eliza, from Canada, and that makes 22. The class has been very excited and very welcoming!
What's been going on:
Math: We have started unit 5 - Fractions! We have specifically been working on making equivalent fractions. We will hopefully wrap this up right before winter break!
Reading: We are continuing to read The Birchbark House and we are finishing our work with summarizing. The students are enjoying the read aloud time, as well as their silent reading time.
Writing: Narratives are finished! They should have been printed today (Thursday), so if your child is not done, then it's late and should be finished ASAP. We will have Schooner times to work on them if students need to catch up. Our next project will be writing a short winter memory to go with our Meals-on-Wheels goodie bags for the elderly. Should be fun!
Social Studies: We are finishing our study of a Native American culture and will present our slideshows on Monday. We will begin our study of European exploration next week. It will be important to discuss the differences between the European culture and Native American culture, and how that impacted the initial contact in the Americas.
Hope all is well!
Molly
