Hello All!
Hope you're having a relaxing weekend before all of the holiday craziness next week. Our Meals-On-Wheels holiday activities went very well on Friday - thanks to our class volunteers Mrs. Mills and Ms. Leonard! We made and painted Christmas ornaments, made hot cocoa packets, and decorated bags and cards, all to be sent to Meals-on-Wheels recipients this holiday season! A few pictures are below!
Reminders:
1. We have a full day on Monday and a half-day with dismissal at 11:00 am on Tuesday.
2. Tuesday is our 5th grade holiday breakfast. If you have offered to donate (again, THANK YOU!) please send items Monday or Tuesday! Our breakfast will be at 8:45, so your child may want to eat a normal breakfast or have a small snack in the morning.
3. Tuesday is also our school-wide PJ Day! Should make the day extra comfy! Students just need to be sure to follow the dress code!
Academic Updates:
Math: We have spent our time the past two weeks refreshing our fraction knowledge from last year. We will continue unit 5 after break. I would encourage students to practice math facts and go on Sumdog over break to keep their math skills sharp!
Reading: We have taken a summary assessment and have tried to take some time to check out the library to stock up before Winter break! I hope students can read for 20 minutes on most days over break (especially those days in January after the holidays settle!) Reading is super important!
Writing: Fiction narratives should be coming home in Friday folders for families to read. They were all very creative! We also wrote a short Winter Memory story to include in our Meals-on-Wheels bags. The recipients always love reading a story, and we talked about topics students could write about that may trigger a fond memory in an elderly individual. The class did a wonderful job with their stories, and I can tell our work with narrative writing this fall has paid off. Feel free to have your child log on to Google Docs at home to show you their work!
Social Studies: Students have presented their Native American slideshows for the class, and did a great job! They worked hard to research a culture thoroughly. After break, we will move on to explorers and the first settlements in the New World. Lots of exciting things are coming up!
Wishing all a great holiday season, relaxing Winter Break, and a fantastic New Year!
Molly
