Hello!
Hope things are going well! This rain, although not so fun, is finally a sign of Spring - I'll take it! Our Overboard concert this morning was FANTASTIC! I'd encourage you to see their performance Saturday night at the Camden Opera House.
Here's a taste of what we saw:

No new announcements! There were no Friday folders going home this weekend - sorry! You'll see them next week.
Updates:
Math: In Math we are finishing up Unit 8. This unit has con sited of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing mixed numbers and fractions. Its tricky stuff, but the students have been doing well! Our assessment will likely be next Wednesday.
Reading: In Reading we have finished our reading of Love That Dog and our exploration of poetry and figurative language. We will come back to these things again this year, too! We have moved onto finding the theme of a story and have spent time doing so with picture books. We will be finding the them in short stories next week. We have also studies a new round of book clubs! We are all reading books by Sharon Creech! We have chosen to do this because Sharon Creech often pays our school a visit in the Spring and it's fun when we have all read a few of her books. Your child should have some type of reading and HW that goes with it every few nights. It's important that they complete the reading and HW so that our book club meetings go smoothly. If students are not completing their work, I will be asking for them to stay at HW club after school to complete it.
Writing: In Writing, we have begun our Persuasive Writing unit. We are all writing about whether or not chocolate milk should be served in schools. We have research both sides and students have chose n one side to argue. Through this work we are learning how to write persuasively, take good notes, and strengthen our arguments with facts and counterclaims. We are in the process of editing these letters and will be sharing in class next week. Following this, we will be choosing our own topics that we are passionate about to write another persuasive letter. I'm excited to see the topics the students each come up with.
Social Studies: In Social Studies we have begun our 13 colonies research project. Students will be making brochures to advertise their colony and are collecting research about the people, history, government, economy, and daily life in their colony. We are still in the research phase, but are working toward completion before April break.
An additional note: In Schooner we are writing a play that we are hoping to perform for some other 5th grade classes - it's turned out to be a mystery and the kids are really excited. We still have lots of work to do though!
We have really gotten into a flow now that the snow days are behind us and we've done a lot of learning over the past few weeks!
Molly
