Hello All!
Hope you had a relaxing and restful holiday with friends and family. I had a great time visiting my parents, younger sisters, and some extended family in Connecticut!
Important Reminders:
1. Parent Teacher Conferences are rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 4 and Friday, Dec. 5. Please make sure that you sign up online via the link HERE or call the main office to schedule a conference if you would like one. I look forward to meeting with you!
2. Our Winter Chorus Concert will be on the evening of Tuesday, December 9th at CHRHS. Students are asked to be at the high school at 6pm for warm-ups, convert begins at 7pm. A notice went home Monday afternoon in HW folders explaining the details. Students are required to wear a white top and black bottom as concert-wear.
3. We have a few fun holiday events coming up and will be looking for volunteers to help out and donate supplies. Look for the notice in this week's Friday Folder!
Academic Update:
Math: We have completed Unit 4, which focused on long division with whole numbers and decimals - tough stuff! This test will come home in Friday Folders this week. We are continuing our work with multiplication facts, so students should be studying in same way at least once each week (a few times would be great). We are reviewing all operations (addition and subtraction with decimals, multiplication and division) before moving on to unit 5 - Fractions!
Reading: In reading we have started to read The Birchbark House, a novel that aligns wonderfully with our Social Studies curriculum, We are using this text to work on a number of reading comprehension skills, especially summarizing!
Writing: We are wrapping up our Fiction Narratives this week with the editing process. Hopefully we will print by the end of the week. Over the next weeks we will be writing Winter Memory stories to go with one of our holiday activities, a project that is always fun!
Social Studies: Students are working on a group project researching a Native American culture. Our focus is on the general lifestyle of the cultures and how the geography of the region affected the culture. Following our research, students will create and present a Powerpoint slideshow.
Science: Students have begun a unit of ecosystems, and are currently working on researching biomes.
Hope things are going well for all!
Here's to hoping for a productive few weeks until Winter Break!
