Hi Everyone,
I can't believe that it's already October! Time flies when you're having fun!
Announcements:
1. Full band will start Oct. 20th. Until then, students will be having lessons on Thursdays or Fridays to get used to their instruments before being in a full band setting.
2. We have Chorus this week! After a few cancellations, we have picked up chorus again and will go tomorrow (Friday)! I'm sure students will come home with songs stuck in their heads!
3. There will be NO SCHOOL next Friday, October 10th due to teacher inservice, and then on Monday, Oct. 13th for Columbus day! Enjoy the long weekend!
Math: We are wrapping up Unit 2 this week and will have the Unit 2 Assessment on Monday. A study guide went home for HW Thursday night, and we reviewed in class on Friday. Please try to use the study guide to review with your child this weekend and help promote home study habits!
Reading: This week we continued writing Reading Responses. We are all getting better and I have really enjoyed writing back to students and engaging in conversations (through letters) about reading! We also talked about Book Talks - a chance for students to share a book they've read with the class. A few students will go each day throughout October. They've written the day in their planner, but I will remind students before they are due.
Writing: We have typed our narratives and are in the process of editing. A rubric for grading will go out to students on Monday!
Social Studies: We are finishing up our conversations about A Long Walk to Water and will be tuning in to watch Salva's presentation next Wednesday. We will finish up our unit on cultural universals in the next week, and begin learning about Early America in mid-October. We have also begun learning about a new state through fun games and activities- ask your child what state we've been learning about this week!
Hope all is going well. As always, email/call with any concerns!
Ms. MacPherson
