Hello!
Next Thursday, students will be taking a mid-year assessment in math. A tan colored notice should have gone home with students Friday in their red Homework folders outlining the items to be assessed. The goals of this assessment are:
1. To inform my teaching at this point in the year and to determine areas of strength and weakness for each student and the things I need to work on with each student.
2. To provide an opportunity for students to achieve a three (or above) on a standard that they haven't mastered yet.
An important change to the letter:
The assessment will have addition and subtraction with fractions, but NOT multiplication or division or mixed number operations. A corrected letter is attached at the end of this post. (I haven't attached one before, so please let me know if it doesn't work!)
It is important for your child to practice at home in addition to the support I am offering at school. Schooners and Math classes this week wiIl be dedicated to review for this assessment and reteaching skills from the beginning of the year that need refreshing. Students are welcome to stay for Homework club from 2:15-3:00 on Wednesday to review as well! I will give your child a list of skills they have not yet mastered to go home on Monday.
Ways to help your child study:
Thank you so much for supporting your child this year. These math concepts are the foundation for the more advanced math that comes in middle and high school!

Ways to help your child study:
- Write out problems for them to work on and check/correct
- Ask them to "teach" you how to do a skill on the list
- Check out the many links on my blog, organized by topic
- Khan academy or learn zillion videos and practice
Thank you so much for supporting your child this year. These math concepts are the foundation for the more advanced math that comes in middle and high school!
